Dr. Jeff Schwehn will present “The Messiah from New Mexico: Francis Schlatter” at this month’s History Notes lecture at 1pm on Thursday, April 12 at Branigan Cultural Center.
Dr. Jeff Schwehn will focus on the mysterious life of Francis Schlatter, dubbed “the Messiah from New Mexico”. Over a period of 6 months in 1895, Schlatter reportedly healed tens of thousands of people in New Mexico and Colorado, and soon after he vanished into thin air. What happened to him? Did he really heal thousands of people? Dr. Schwehn aims to answer those questions during his lecture.
Dr. Schwehn obtained his Psychology graduate degrees at New Mexico Highlands University and the University of New Mexico; he’s worked as a practitioner and administrator in mental health clinics in Albuquerque, Los Alamos, Alamogordo, and Las Cruces; as well as a Psychology instructor at NMSU-Alamogordo.
