Train Days, April 29, 10a-2p

Railroad Days

Please join us for our 10th annual Train Day event on April 29, 2017, from 10:00am – 2:00pm. This year, the Rail Runner will return to Las Cruces for tours. This is the first time since 2010 that the Rail Runner has been in Southern New Mexico!

Learn about the role that trains played in our history, and meet re-enactors to discover

first-hand what it was like to live and work in the early 20th century.

Historic Harvey Girl and train staff re-enactors from El Paso will be on hand to talk about life working for the railroads in the early 20th century. NMSU’s 1912 Time Travelers class will perform skits between 10am and 12 noon.

The Dona Ana Modular Railroad Club will have a large display of H-O trains running. Quilter Lynn Moseley will be working on a train-themed quilt during the day.

Museums from around the state will have information tables inside the museum. Information will also be available about the restoration of the 2926 steam engine in Albuquerque.

Outside, weather permitting, live steam demonstrations will take place hourly. Try your hand at signaling the same way rail yard employees signaled the locomotive crew, with color coded flags. Equipment from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will be on display.

As part of the 5th annual Las Cruces Country Music Festival, two local country music bands will be performing: Daisy Blue at 11am; and Vince Alten at 12:30pm.

The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10a.m. to 4:30pm and Saturday 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call (575) 647-4480.

If you need an accommodation for a disability to enable you to fully participate in this event, please contact the museum 48 hours prior to the event.
