Beginning in the end of November, New Mexico artist Gunnar Plake will share Extended Passage of Time, panoramic images collected during a winter’s day at White Sands National Monument. His work is represented in the collections of the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art, the Denver Art Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, and other institutions.
The exhibit opens in conjunction with another art exhibit on Saturday, November 23. An artists’ reception will be held on Friday, December 6 from 5:00PM-7:00PM. On Saturday, December 7, he will host a gallery talk at 10:00AM.
“Rather than photography’s concentration on the frozen moment, I am after the space between moments where time is expanded and dates compressed,” explains Plake of his exhibition. “By moving the camera during exposure, I include more information in each image and expand the expressive possibilities of the photographic medium.”
Funded by the City of Las Cruces, the Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street, between the Branigan Cultural Center and the Museum of Nature & Science. For more information about exhibitions or programs, please call (575) 541-2137 or visit the website at www.las-cruces.org.
