Book Club to Discuss “Pie Town Woman” at Branigan Cultural Center

Accompanying a lecture on New Mexico newspaperwoman Josephine Foster, the Cultural Connections Book Club will discuss Joan Myers’ Pie Town Woman: The Hard Life and Good Times of a New Mexico Homesteader on Wednesday, February 19, 2-4pm.

In 2014 the Branigan Book Club will be pairing books with our monthly History Notes lecture series. The following day, February 20, Annie Muirhead will give a history lecture entitled Live-Wire: Josephine Foster and Progressive New Mexico. To pair with the story of a leading female journalist, Pie Town Woman gives readers a look into domestic life in the West during the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The book is filled with interviews, photographs, and anecdotes that bring color and humanity to this little-known pocket of New Mexico.

Please read Pie Town Woman and join us for a discussion of the book on Wednesday, February 19, from 2-4 pm at the Branigan Cultural Center.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 North Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154 or visit the Center’s website at las-cruces.org/museums.
