“Borderland” Exhibit at the Branigan Cultural Center

The Branigan Cultural Center presents Borderland, a solo exhibit by Kim Shifflett.

The exhibit opens on Friday, April 5 and concludes on Saturday, April 27. An artist’s reception is to be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 5 during the monthly Ramble. There will be an Artist Talk and Demo on Saturday, April 6 at 1pm.

In Borderland, Ms. Shifflett calls, “…attention to the hardships endured by the people on the south side of the border…” To add dimension, these works are painted with “…large open spaces while the subject matter is crowded into a small section of the overall picture.” By doing so, Borderland presents the limited options of the individuals who live in such vast space.

Kim Shifflett, a native of Illinois, grew up in Las Cruces during the time when crossing the border to Cuidad Juarez was both safe and enjoyable. Her knowledge of our borderland stemmed from this time of her life.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 N. Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154 or visit the Center’s web site at www.las-cruces.org/museums.
