The Branigan Cultural Center presents, International Madonna Print Exchange. This exhibit begins on Friday, May 2 and concludes on Saturday, June 28, 2014. Dr. Elizabeth Zarur will present an opening discussion on the Feminine in Religious Iconography of the Southwest at 4:30pm. The opening reception for International Madonna will take place at the Branigan Cultural Center on Friday, May 2 from 5pm to 7pm during the monthly Ramble.
International Madonna Print Exchange includes all traditional printmaking media, including letter press, monoprint, digital/photography-based, stencil or any combination of print processes. In 2012, Teresa J Parker, Director of Ochosi Editions, a Illinois print publisher, sponsored a an international call for artists to make an original print suite. The suite theme pertained to the Madonna, Virgin Mother, and expanded to include Yemaya, and other cultures’ mother images. The response was tremendous, having 74 artists participate from the US, Canada, Cuba, Nicaragua, Mexico and Poland. The suite was exhibited in Illinois, Mexico, and Guatemala.
