Make a Mobile at Branigan Cultural Center

Museum educators at Branigan Cultural Center will offer a free workshop on making mobiles inspired by bird and insect wings on Saturday, January 24 at 1pm. This workshop, suitable for adults and children (aged 10 and up with a helper), will allow participants to create a moving piece of art that reflects the themes of the exhibit The Birds and The Bees. All materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring images of birds and insects to help them create their mobile.

The Birds and The Bees, by Paul Flippen, was inspired by the birth of the artist’s son and explores the complications of love, pleasure, and the act of creation – literal and metaphorical, biological and artistic. The exhibit opened on January 2nd at the Branigan Cultural Center and will be on display until the end of the month. Flippen has been painting for over two decades and has had his work shown in galleries and museums around the country, including solo exhibitions in New York, Texas, the Mid-West, and the Washington D.C. metro area.  He currently teaches Foundations Painting at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 North Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154, visit the Center’s website at las-cruces.org/museums or find us on Facebook.
