Museum of Art Reading Art Book Club

The Reading Art Book Club meets next on Wednesday, September 12, at 2:30pm in the Las Cruces Museum of Art. This month’s book selection is Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature by Linda Lear.

Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) had a passion for place that found aesthetic expression in the beautifully realized natural settings of her celebrated children’s books (such as The Tale of Peter Rabbit) and practical expression in her less-well-known role as a successful landowner, farm manager, and sheep breeder. Accordingly, Lear, who is a professor of environmental history, gives special attention to the places that provided the settings for Potter’s books and for her real-life evolution as a shrewd businesswoman and ardent preservationist of the rural landscape of her beloved Lake District (located in North West England, now a National Park).

The Reading Art Book Club meetings are free and open to the public. Join us even if you haven’t read the book! For more information or for details on book selections, contact Bryan Lee, Museum Curator of Education, at 575-541-2217 or blee (at) las-cruces.org.

The museum is located at 491 North Main Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturdays from 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit our website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call 575-541-2137.
