The Branigan Cultural Center presents Painted Parallels, featuring the artwork of Dr. Sohini Dhar and Sudeshna Sengupta. Both artists earned their degrees in Fine Arts from Visva Bharati University in India. Dhar lives and teaches in Kolkata, India, and Sengupta lives in Las Cruces. The exhibition will be on display through Saturday, August 20. The artist’s reception for the exhibit will be on Friday, August 5 from 5pm to 7pm.
Painted Parallels is comprised of paintings, drawings, textiles and prints by Dhar and Sengupta. The exhibit showcases the development of two separate bodies of work by these artists who share common creative roots. While these artists began their career on a similar path, their artwork has evolved separately, resulting in similarities and contrasts that the audience is invited to explore.
The artists will be in attendance for a preview of the exhibit on Thursday, July 14 from 5pm to 8pm. Dhar will give a brief talk on the work on display and the process by which the similar artistic trajectories were developed by both artists.
The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 North Main Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm, Thursday from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit the website at:
