The Las Cruces Railroad museum hosts activities during April for everyone to enjoy!
The whole family is invited to participate in Family Game Day from 10am to 12pm
Saturday, April 8. The museum provides a variety of old-fashioned games that have been popular for centuries, as well as wooden and jigsaw puzzles. The origin of Dominos can be traced to 13th century China before they made their way to Europe in the 18th century and eventually became the game we know today.
“Mrs. Prickett’s Story Time” is at 11am on Thursday, April 13. Join Mrs. Prickett and her delightful puppets as they read books and tell stories. A related activity appropriate for pre-school children will follow the story. Another story time for children of all ages is at 11am on Saturday, April 15.
Coloring Club for adults will be from 10am to 12pm on Friday, April 14. Countless people are discovering that coloring is a fun way to recapture one of the joys of childhood. Bring your own book and colored pencils, or use our materials. We have a wide variety of pages ready to be colored, from simple pictures to intricate designs.
The 10th annual Train Day will be held from 10am – 2pm on Saturday, April 29.
The Railrunner will be back in Las Cruces for the first time in seven years. Come by to see it and model trains from the Dona Ana Modular Railroad Club, historic Harvey Girl and train staff re-enactors from El Paso, live steam demonstrations, and educational material to challenge your train trivia skills. Students from the New Mexico State University class ‘Time Traveling to 1912’ will present skits between 10am and 12pm. Two local country music bands will also be performing, Daisy Blue at 11am, and Vince Alten at 12:30pm.
Admission to the Railroad Museum is free! The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and Saturday 9am to 4:30pm For additional information, visit the website at: museums.las-cruces.org or call (575) 647-4480.
