Railroad Museum – July Events for Entire Family

The Las Cruces Railroad museum presents a variety of programs during July that are sure to interest all the different members of your family.  Choose an activity that fits your interests, and enjoy it in our 1910 Santa Fe Depot museum.

The Brown Bag Lecture will be presented at 12pm on Tuesday, July 10, by Fred Friedman. His presentation of “Native American Steel Gangs” will describe the establishment and importance of the work by Native Americans in building railroads and depots in New Mexico.

Rail Readers Book Club meets at 11am on Wednesday, July 18, and will discuss the second half of The Two Alberts: Fountain and Fall, written by Gordon R. Owen. Even if you haven’t read the book, come enjoy the lively conversation.

Adults who enjoy coloring can come between 10am – 12pm on July 13 and 27. This is a chance to enjoy socializing with other adults while expressing yourself creatively. Bring your own supplies or use our coloring pages and colored pencils.

There will be three Story Times for children in July, all beginning at 11am.  On July 7 and 21, children of all ages can listen to a story and complete a related craft. On July 12, Mrs. Prickett and her playful puppets will engage pre-school children with a book and activity.

Family Game Day is from 10am – 12pm on Saturday, July 14. Challenge your friends to a game of Dominoes, practice your hand-eye coordination with Cup and Ball Toss, and play a variety of games that have entertained families for centuries.

The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30 pm, Wednesdays 10am to 8 pm, and Saturdays 9am to 4:30pm.  For additional information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call (575) 528-3444.
