The Reading Art Book Club meets next on Wednesday, May 9, at 2:30pm in the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science, next door to the Museum of Art. The May book selection is Disarmed: The Story of the Venus de Milo by Gregory Curtis.
Disarmed: The Story of the Venus de Milo is set in the spring of 1820, on the Aegean island of Melos, where a farmer unexpectedly unearthed the statue that would come to be known as the Venus de Milo. The story examines the excitement surrounding the sculpture’s discovery, the battle for its possession, the disputes over its authenticity, and its ultimate mystique and legacy.
Reading Art Book Club meetings are free and open to the public. Join us even if you haven’t read the book! For more information or for details on book selections, contact Joy Miller at 541-2221 or jmiller@las-cruces.org.
