STEAMpunk – Fernando Altamirano, Horticulturalist, Saturday, July 21, 11:45 AM

The Museum of Nature & Science presents “STEAMpunk – Fernando Altamirano” Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 11:45am. The program is free and open to the public.

Fernando Altamirano, founded and directed the National Medical Institute of Mexico and was a physician, naturalist, and botanist during the 19th century. He studied medicinal and industrial uses of Mexican plants. Participants will examine plant properties and explore the many uses of local plants from fabrication to food source.

“STEAMpunk” is offered monthly, highlighting the work of an historic scientist through hands on exploration. The content and activities are intended for ages 7-12.

The museum is located at 411 N. Main Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm, Wednesday from 10am to 8pm, and Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm.  For additional information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call (575) 522-3120.
