Vision/Revision: New Mexico Poets on the Page, opening Friday, March 23, 2018, at the Branigan Cultural Center, celebrates National Poetry month in April.
A collaboration with the New Mexico State University Archives and the Creative Writing Program at NMSU, this exhibit presents a glimpse into the works of New Mexico poets Lorenzo Torrez, Margaret Page Hood, Eugene Manlove Rhodes, and Keith Wilson. These four poets wrote about southern New Mexico’s people, ranching life, cultural identities, and our Chihuahuan desert environment. The working notes, drafts, and final manuscripts they left behind, held in the NMSU Archives, provide insight into the poet’s mind at work, as words are shaped into meaning.
Join us as we celebrate National Poetry month, a nationwide exploration of the ways poetry impacts the lives of all Americans. As part of the exhibit, an interactive poetry “Creation Room” will provide a desk, typewriter, writing instruments, paper, and prompts for getting started writing poems. Visitors will have the opportunity to put their own work on display in the exhibit for others to see. Weekend writing workshops for all ages, poetry readings and lectures will be part of the exhibit schedule.
Admission is free to the Branigan Cultural Center, located at 501 North Main Street. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10am to 4:30pm, and Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit the website at museums.las-cruces.org or call 575-541-2154.
