“Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics” Screenings at the Rio Grande Theatre

Join us for a series of screenings of episodes from the PBS documentary Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics. Screenings of 2 episodes will be held on April 10, April 24, and May 8 from 3pm to 4pm and on May 22, we will finish the series with the final three episodes starting at 3pm. All screenings are held at the Rio Grande Theatre. Admission is free .

Why Quilts Matter: History, Art & Politics is an exciting and thought-provoking nine-part documentary series that will change the way you think about quilts. Uncover and explore the unsuspected size and depth of quilt culture through two centuries of history. Watch as women gain power from their handiwork, and consider the nature of the art itself. These screenings are in conjunction with Life Along the Rio Grande quilting exhibition at the Branigan Cultural Center, on display April 3 – June 9.

Admission to the Branigan Cultural Center is free. The museum is located at 501 North Main Street and is open Tuesday – Friday from 10am to 4:30pm, Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For additional information, visit the website at: museums.las-cruces.org or call 575.541.2154.
