The Las Cruces Railroad Museum will host a lecture at noon on Tuesday, July 8. Patrick H. Beckett, archaeologist, ethnohistorian, Director of COAS Publishing & Research since 1973, and founder of COAS books, will present 1881 – The Railroad Comes to Las Cruces.
Prior to the arrival of the railroad, Las Cruces was beginning to experience growing pains. After the railroad arrived, the town was forever changed. Beckett has written extensively on local archaeology and history, and was the principal investigator on several archaeological projects. He has received numerous awards from historical and archaeological societies and has served on many historical and cultural boards and committees.
