Starting Friday, September 6, the Las Cruces  Museum of Art will display From the Ground Up XXVI, a regional, juried exhibition of contemporary ceramics, through Saturday, November 9, 2013. The exhibition opens with an artists’ reception at 5:00 PM on Friday, September 6. Exhibition juror Jim Romberg will present the awards at 6:00 PM including the Museum Purchase Awards sponsored by the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums. This biannual event is a collaboration between the Potters’ Guild of Las Cruces and the Las Cruces Museum of Art.

From the Ground Up XXVI features ceramic works, both functional and sculptural, by thirty-six artists representing New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. Local artists include Barbara Williams, Cindy Waddell, Laura Sedillos, Cally Williams, Andrew Nagem, Liz Fisher, Wendy Baldwin, Randy and Jeannine Summers, Danielle Wood (award winner 2011), Glenn Schwaiger, Suzanne Kane, Betty Burciaga, Andi Freespirit, and Martha Roditti.

On Saturday, September 7 at 11:00 AM, Jim Romberg will hold a gallery talk and discuss the works selected for the exhibition. Romberg is a Professor Emeritus from Southern Oregon University where he headed the Ceramics Department for nineteen years. He currently lives in Sedona, Arizona where he maintains his studio. Before taking over the ceramics program at Southern Oregon University, Romberg developed an internationally recognized ceramics program at the Sun Valley Center for Arts and Humanities in Idaho.

The Museum of Art is funded by the City of Las Cruces and located at 491 N. Main Street next to the Branigan Cultural Center and the Museum of Nature & Science. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The Museum is closed Sundays and Mondays.
