Cultural Connections Book Club meets in June with The Devil’s Cup by Stewart Lee Allen

The Branigan Cultural Center’s book club, Cultural Connections, will meet to discuss The Devil’s Cup by Stewart Lee Allen on June 18th at 1pm. The program is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

With this selection, the book club will help kick off the new exhibit, Coffee: The World in Your Cup. Stewart Lee Allen’s book includes all of his coffee-related travels. He treks three-quarters of the way around the world on a caffeinated quest to answer these profound questions: Did the advent of coffee give birth to an enlightened western civilization? Is coffee, indeed, the substance that drives history? From the cliffhanging villages of Southern Yemen, where coffee beans were first cultivated eight hundred years ago… to the roadside diners and chain restaurants of the good old U.S.A., where something resembling brown water passes for coffee, Allen wittily proves that the world was wired long before the Internet.

This is the first meeting of Cultural Connections, a new book club hosted by the Branigan Cultural Center. It will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at 1pm.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 N. Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154 or visit the Center’s web site at las-cruces.org/museums.
