Decorate a Nicho Frame at Workshop

In conjunction with the exhibit, International Madonna Print Exchange by Ochosi Editions, the Branigan Cultural Center will host a workshop facilitated by Al Hernandez on wooden nicho frames. The workshop takes place Saturday, May 31 at 1:30 pm. The program is free and open to the public, but there is limited availability. Please visit the Branigan Cultural Center to enroll.

Al Hernandez is a local master woodworker and displays his work regularly at the Las Cruces Farmer’s Market. The workshop will consist of decorating a wooden frame to display in your own home. Nichos, santos, and retablos are a common feature in New Mexico homes, but these frames will be suitable for artwork of all varieties. Hernandez will explain his work and design process to visitors and will assist them in creating a frame that reflects their own style. Custom frame ornaments are available for participants who register in advance. Come by the Branigan Cultural Center to preview framing elements and order your own selection of pieces.

The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 North Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4:30pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154 or visit the Center’s website at las-cruces.org/museums.
