Join the Las Cruces Museum of Art during the First Friday Downtown Arts Ramble on March 6 for a 5-7pm guided walk through the exhibit hosted by collectors, Lynn Wiley and Billy & Cynthia Garrett.
Las Cruces Collects features works from the collections of three local art collectors: Billy & Cynthia Garrett, Lynn Wiley & John Purcell, and the New Mexico State University Art Gallery. Ms. Wiley and Mr. & Mrs. Garrett will discuss how they began collecting art and answer questions about pieces in their private collections.
Ms. Wiley is an artist residing in Las Cruces. The works shown from her collections represent journeys in her life and personal relationships. With over 45 years of experience in making, teaching, and trading art, she has acquired a collection primarily through gifts and exchanging work with colleagues.
Mr. Garrett’s first acquisition of art was a set of posters he had as a boy and still cherishes. Mrs. Garrett was first attracted to depictions of music and dance in two and three dimensional art. Through these interests, and the art career of brother John Garrett, the Garretts have developed a defined palette that contains an eclectic range of pieces.
The Museum of Art is located at 491 N. Main Street. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. For more information, contact the Branigan Cultural Center at (575) 541-2154.
