Please join us for the lecture “The Archaeologist’s Laboratory” on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 1:00pm by archaeologist Lillian M. Ponce. Ms. Ponce will be discussing Radiocarbon dating, a technique often used to help determine the age of archaeological sites.
Lillian M. Ponce is an archaeologist in the American Southwest. Ms. Ponce received both her B.A, and M.A in Anthropology at New Mexico State University. Currently, Ms. Ponce is the Laboratory/Data Management Supervisor for the contract archaeology firm Geo-Marine. She has 9 years of professional experience supervising the archaeology laboratory in artifact analysis and curation, and 10 years of professional experience working on archaeological projects in New Mexico/West Texas, California, and Nevada.
After the lecture, attendees are encouraged to visit the featured exhibit Pueblo to Pueblo: The Legacy of Southwest Pottery. The exhibit features selections from the Collection of the Kansas City Museum and Union Station Kansas City. Curated by Bill Mercer, the exhibit highlights work from many Native American tribes, including Acoma, Laguna, Zuni and more.
The Branigan Cultural Center is located downtown next to the Museum of Art at 501 N. Main Street. Admission to the program and galleries is free.
